Biography
Born in Luxembourg in 1996, pianist Arthur Possing has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices of the new European jazz scene. At the helm of his Arthur Possing Quartet, founded in 2013, he has been developing a personal musical language for over ten years, shaped by a solid classical and jazz education at the Conservatory of the City of Luxembourg and at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the guidance of Eric Legnini.
Bringing together musicians from Germany, France, and Luxembourg, all trained in leading institutions such as the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood, and the Musikhochschule Mannheim, the quartet performs a resolutely modern jazz, open to many influences while remaining rooted in the tradition. Its repertoire blends original compositions with reinterpretations of themes by jazz musicians they particularly admire, through writing that emphasizes group sound, listening, and lyricism.
Following a well‑received debut album, Four Years (Hypnote Records, 2018), highlighted as a “Hit” by the French magazine Couleurs Jazz, and then Natural Flow (Double Moon, 2021), the quartet has reached a new milestone with Homes (Challenge Records, 2025). On this third album, Arthur invites Malagasy guitarist Joel Rabesolo, whose singular playing further enriches the group’s palette and underscores the pianist’s commitment to building strong, cross‑border collaborations.
Acclaimed by both critics and audiences, the Arthur Possing Quartet now tours regularly across Europe and beyond, confirming the pianist’s central role on the Luxembourg and international jazz scenes.
