Cross Country
With “Cross Country”, Luxembourgish trio Reis Demuth Wiltgen takes a new step by joining forces with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Vince Mendoza. Pianist and composer Michel Reis delivers a series of pieces in which the trio’s refined writing unfolds within a wide‑ranging orchestral setting, without ever losing the melodic clarity or rhythmic flexibility that define the group’s signature sound.

The album stands out for the quality of its orchestrations, which do far more than simply “dress” the trio: they extend and reinvigorate the improvisational dialogue. Strings, woodwinds, and brass become true musical partners, shaping atmospheres that are by turns lyrical, cinematic, or more incisive, always in service of the musical narrative.

The presence of saxophonist Joshua Redman on several tracks adds another layer of depth, blending his instantly recognisable tone with the elegance of the arrangements and the tight interaction of the trio. Conceived as much for the stage as for the studio, “Cross Country” offers a programme with strong dramatic impact, ideal for major concert halls and festivals seeking to bring jazz and symphonic audiences together around a shared experience.
