Biography
Pianist, singer, and composer, Nirina Rakotomavo is part of a new generation of French jazz artists who weave a deep dialogue between stories and places. Born into a family of musicians on Réunion Island and now based in Paris, she shapes a universe in which finely crafted writing, captivating vocals, and a piano style that is both fluid and intense form an immediately recognisable signature.
First noticed as an accompanist for leading voices of French chanson before establishing herself as a composer within the vocal trio Selkies, Nirina now multiplies performances and collaborations on the French jazz scene, earning recognition from the Génération Spedidam 2023–2025 programme and invitations to major festivals such as Jazz in Vienne.
With her self‑titled project, she writes all the compositions and develops a language nourished by jazz, chanson, and Creole reminiscences, carried by highly sophisticated vocal harmonies and a deeply grounded rhythmic feel. Her new album, “Paris Réunion”, released in 2025, tells in music the love story between the French capital and the island where she grew up: a sensitive journey that confirms the emergence of a singular and endearing voice on today’s jazz scene.
