Biography

Groovy rhythms, guitar acrobatics, and wild live shows are just some of the words that come to mind when talking about Mutiny On The Bounty. The Luxembourg‑based quartet has been bringing its unique brand of math rock and instrumental music across Europe, playing nearly 700 shows as support for bands such as Biffy Clyro, Foals, And So I Watch You From Afar, TTNG, and Maps & Atlases, while performing at major festivals including Roskilde, SXSW, Primavera, and Rock For People.

Following their second album Trials (2012), recorded with producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Botch, Minus The Bear), the post‑rock quartet Mutiny On The Bounty released its third album Digital Tropics, produced by German engineer Jan Kerscher of Ghost City Recordings.

This third record saw the band fully embrace its instrumental side, already strongly asserted on the previous album. Speaking about Digital Tropics, the band explains: “Digital Tropics encompasses all facets of our personalities, from rock to electronica and more diverse influences such as 80s pop or even hip‑hop. It offers a wider range of emotions and we believe it is a powerful album. We are really proud of this record.”

The aptly named opening track, 'Mkl Jksn', is the perfect introduction to 'Digital Tropics', with reverb-drenched, groove-infused staccato melodies emanating from guitars dancing around a technically intricate and mechanically complex rhythm section. Elsewhere, tracks such as 'Telekinesis' infuse slightly heavier riffs and a driving rhythm with guitars that sound closer to keyboards or synthesizers than strings, giving the track a diverse and uplifting feel. It's here that the inclusion of new influences can be heard; at times, one can almost hear elements of Kraftwerk, while other areas are closer to bands such as ASIWYFA, Faraquet, or Battles.

The same approach can be heard on “Ecliptic”, which shifts between electro, math rock, and moments of euphoric, almost orchestral soundscapes reminiscent of Vangelis or Brad Fiedel.

MOTB is a band that has grown with each record by digging deeper into their individual personalities to explore new sounds and writing techniques. In doing so, they have moved into new territory, exploring a sound world that feels deceptively more melancholic than Trials, while remaining both technically demanding and fully danceable.

After an intense touring schedule spanning from 2004 to 2016, MOTB chose to slow down in order to focus on individual projects and explore new musical directions. Re‑energised and more dynamic than ever, the band has regrouped with renewed vigour and is currently channelling its creativity into new music scheduled for release in 2024.
